Very thankful that the winds last night did not cause serious damage! A branch landed on the hydro lines that cross our farm just in front of our house, right above where we park our vehicles, arcing and damaging two lines. Although many in our neighbourhood were without power for 16 hours, no sparks caused damage to our house or our vehicles.

Our first incubated chicks got new digs today at 4 weeks old, and our young chicks took over their brooder box as day olds. Quite a difference!

Three early birds so far! Hatch day doesn't officially start until noon tomorrow, and at that point the first chick will already be 34 hours old.
We are livestreaming the hatch. Link in bio.

Candling - Day 7.
I tried candling all the eggs earlier today but the room was too bright to see much through the brown, blue and green shells. Tonight I was able to see much more! This one is a great example of the typical veining at Day 7.
Two weeks to go.

Been short on eggs this year and now that we're back from holidays, we finally had enough to pull straight from the coop for the incubator.
These are Orpington, RSL, Americauna and barnyard mix covered by a barred rock roo, so it will be interesting to see what hatches.

Expanding runs this year and prepping for some new layers. Loving the variety in feathers and eggs!

Our "one and done" hen hatched out one chick from a whole clutch of eggs. We were hoping for one or two colourful eggs to hatch (mama is an azure blue), but it looks like we have a barred rock rooster.
Hopefully one of the other two broody hens hatches out some pullets to add to our laying flock.
