I’ve been somewhat intrigued by mealworms and after some research I decided I would see if we could breed some to feed to our chickens.

Candling - Day 7. I tried candling all the eggs ea Candling - Day 7. I tried candling all the eggs earlier today but the room was too bright to see much through the brown, blue and green shells. Tonight I was able to see much more! This one is a great example of the typical veining at Day 7. Two weeks to go.
Been short on eggs this year and now that we're ba Been short on eggs this year and now that we're back from holidays, we finally had enough to pull straight from the coop for the incubator. These are Orpington, RSL, Americauna and barnyard mix covered by a barred rock roo, so it will be interesting to see what hatches.

Our "one and done" hen hatched out one chick from Our "one and done" hen hatched out one chick from a whole clutch of eggs. We were hoping for one or two colourful eggs to hatch (mama is an azure blue), but it looks like we have a barred rock rooster. Hopefully one of the other two broody hens hatches out some pullets to add to our laying flock. #crowderfarm #broodyhen #chicksofinstagram

There goes Grandpa's big old ash tree. It has sat There goes Grandpa's big old ash tree. It has sat trimmed exactly like this for decades. We've had a soggy spring and the trunk finally gave out. John tested it and it seemed solid earlier this week.
Dew-covered rose, elderflowers, and thousands of t Dew-covered rose, elderflowers, and thousands of tiny pawpaws. I counted over 50 pawpaws on one branch the other day. A lot of these pawpaws will fall off over the coming weeks, but I haven't seen this many over the six years we've lived here.
